Description of Training
San Jacinto
College North Continuing Education is certified by the Texas State Board of
Educator Certification (SBEC) to offer the Alternative Teacher Certification
Program (ATCP) for the State of
Our Alternative Teacher Certification Program provides training for individuals
already holding a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
and are wanting to become a certified teacher in
Our certification program is intensive, fast-tracked, and modular based.
Courses will be held evenings and alternating weekends. Orientation and class
schedules will be provided to applicants during the application process.
Before applying to our program, applicants must attend one free Information
Session. Information Sessions are held each month to allow interested
individuals to learn about the application process and the certification
requirements. At this meeting, you will also receive our ATCP application
packet.
After
attending the information session
and obtaining an application packet interested applicants are required to
submit the following materials by the posted deadlines below:
A completed ATCP Application
Official sealed transcript from all college universities
attended. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA
TASP/THEA test or SAT or ACT score report
Detailed resume with work experience/ content related
experience and computer competencies.
Three Professional Recommendations
An essay on “Why I Want to Become a Teacher.”
IC³ Technology Certification (3 tests @ $35 each offered
by SJC-North CE) for Technology Application Certificate Only

North Alternative Teacher Certification Program.

fill the need for qualified teachers in our schools if you have a desire to
teach and currently have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Ideal persons are those
who are:
An existing teacher wishing to add Technology Applications
certification
Currently teaching on an emergency permit;
Wanting to change teaching credentials;
Looking for a career change;
Desiring to begin a new career after retirement or military
service.

Locations
Professional development, content specific, and computer skills
courses is scheduled at San Jacinto College North and other extension
sites. Classroom observations and internships will be conducted at partnering
independent district schools.
